Size: This farm in total comprises 3 farms, joined to form a unit, but with 3 separate title deeds. The total extent of the 3 farms is 1678.18 Ha (approx. 3691 Acres). This farm borders the well- known Addo Elephant Nature Reserve.
Location: The farm is situated in the Province of the Eastern Cape, adjacent to the Northern portion of the Addo Elephant Park. Its proximity from the city of Port Elizabeth is less than 90 km (less than an hour's drive). The farm is easily reached by road as it is located off, the Port Elizabeth- Johannesburg main road, the N 10. The turn off to the farm is found approx. 15 km north of the town Paterson. From there the distance to the farm is approx. 12 km. It is truly situated in one of the most beautiful areas of this country.
Climate: The area, in which the farm is situated, falls within the coastal rainfall belt. The average annual rainfall for the areas of Addo and the close by town of Alicedale is approx. 400mm. The climate is very pleasant indeed; it hardly ever gets too hot or too cold. The summer season spans from November through to June. The mean daily average temperature for the summer months is approx. 22 degrees centigrade. Generally speaking the winter days are lovely and sunny, with evenings somewhat colder, with the mean average temperature approx. 15 degrees centigrade.
Water: Two strong boreholes occur on the banks of the Krom River. Further there are ten ground dams and three cement dams, which are utilized as watering holes for the game. Four fountains are situated on the higher peaks of the farm. There is a proposed site in one of the valleys for a large dam to be built. In addition, some thirteen other valleys have the potential for the creation of large dams, as they fall within large water catchments areas. The Krom River runs through close to the centre of the farm in an easterly direction. It generally flows during the rainy season, from October through to July. It is feasible and inexpensive to erect a weir across the river and in this manner dam up the water and create a lake extending back a few hundred meters. This could serve as a watering hole for animals and in addition provide appropriate lookout points, bush camps and picnic spots etc.
Game: Quite a number of species of buck and antelopes inhabit the farm, such as Kudu, Springbok, Impala, and Blesbuck. On the mountain slopes the small Duiker and Steenbok are present. In addition to that, monkeys and baboons as well as the odd leopard are to be found
Vegetation: The highest peaks are mixed grassveld and " Fynbos". The North facing slopes are covered with "Afromontane Forest" which is exceptionally rare and only occurs in scattered pockets around the Eastern Province. Afromontane comprises large Yellowwood, Milkwood and other indigenous trees and bush. Savannah grassveld is also present, which is very sweet and excellent grazing for Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala, and Springbok.
Developments: A thatched lodge is currently being built which includes a main building and 2 separate buildings, comprising of 9 en suite rooms. There is Oregon pine flooring through out the lodge. 100 yr old sneeze wood poles and stones from the farm have been used to create magnificent chimneys and other unique features.
The main building has 4 en suite rooms, TV room/study, guest toilet and open plan lounge, kitchen and dining leading onto a large verandah with beautiful scenic views of the valley. The building is double volume and the dining area has a mezzanine level which can be used as second lounge/reading area. There are Jet master fire places in the TV room and lounge/dining area. The kitchen has an original AGA stove installed as well as a separate scullery area. There is a built-in stone braai on the verandah.
The second building consists of 3 en-suite rooms, and open plan lounge, kitchen area and a Jet master fireplace, with stone detail.
The third building has 2 en-suite rooms with a lounge area and large fireplace and verandah. The farm is in the process of being game fenced.
The gravel road, leading to the farm and running through the farm to the neighboring property, is of good quality. The entire farm is crisscrossed with smaller roads and pathways, some navigable for standard vehicles; others only suitable for four wheel drive vehicles.
Typography: The center of the farm is situated in a valley that has a horseshoe formation, where the entry to the farm is situated at open end of the horseshoe. The farm then stretches in a south- western, northern and eastern direction into the mountain ridges, and in some areas, across the parallel mountain ridges. The boundary between the farm and Addo Park is found on the south- western side of the farm. This area, on top of the ridge, commands beautiful views of the Addo Park, with the Indian Ocean in the far background. On a clear day or night the city of Port Elizabeth is visible.
